Welcome to the White Pine Stampede!

Greetings from Northwest Michigan and the White Pine Stampede, and welcome to our web site!

Feb 6, 2010

Race results now available!

Feb 3, 2010 Here we go! Due to previous years' experience with the weather, I've held off talking about trail conditions, but it appears we can now count on what we have. This morning Chief of Course, Bill Fleet proclaimed that, " 98% of the track is excellent, 2% presents an interesting challenge." There are those few thin spots but all is passable. So, all three distance events will run as scheduled and will be their full length, 10, 20, and 40kms. Remember, Friday night check-in or registration is at Shanty Creek Resort, main lodge, from 4:00 to 9:00pm Electronic registration ends Thursday night. Last minute registration fees increase for both the 20km and 40km events on Friday. Also remember, we do register skiers on Saturday morning beginning at 7:45 at Mancelona High School. Light fresh snow is falling! Conditions look excellent! Register now by phone at 231-587-8812.

Feb 1, 2010 Race day notes: Shuttle buses will again be available to return skiers from each of our three finish-line areas to their cars at Mancelona High School. Shuttles run in frequent rotation and operate until the last skier is transported. Remember, however, Mancelona High School will be locked by that time. Personal items May Not be left at Mancelona High School after the start for later pick up. Only the Day Care room will remian open. Check out the Map page on this web site; a current map has been loaded. Please note, bag pick-up and registration Friday night will occur at Shanty Creek Resort, main lodge; Not in Mancelona as in the past. Also, remember, there will be a waxing workshop/clinic at Shanty Creek Resort Friday evening under the guidance of Nic Baic.

January 25, 2010 Special opportunities: Skiers your bib and $10 will get you a spaghetti dinner at the Lakeside Dining Room at Shanty Creek Resort on the Friday night before the race (Bib holders only, not their entire party). As in the past, breakfast will be available at the high school starting location from 7:am until 10:am. On race day child care will be provided for skiers who need the service. It will be operated by the National Honor Society from Mancelona High School. Child care will open at 8:00am Saturday morning at Mancelona High School. Donations to the National Honor Society will be accepted; a snack will be provided for your child but NOT a full lunch. Also, after your event, $5 and your bib will get you a shower in the Fitness Center at Shanty Creek Resort. Fresh snow is expected this week. Register now.

January 16, 2010 There will be two opportunities for waxing with this year's Stampede. Nic Baic will conduct a waxing workshop, Friday night at Shanty Creek Resort, Parlor 'G'. Nic is a recognized TOKO Wax instructor and is offering his years' of experience to all who want to share. Waxes will not be available so bring your own and your waxing gear. Space for waxing will be available. Saturday morning all that is offered is a tarp covering a corner of the floor. No waxes or benches are available. Plan on minimal waxing here.

January 12,1010 The White Pine Stampede welcomes Short's Brewing Company of Bellaire as a sponsor of this year's event. A brew from Short's will be featured at this year's skiers' gathering prior to the awards, Saturday afternoon. Look for more photographers and vidiographers on the course this year as a video production of the Stampede will be posted at various places on the internet shortly after the event.

November 2009 Hi everyone. Hope the late fall season has you thinking snow and cross country skiing. We are certainly thinking snow and getting ready for the 34th annual White Pine Stampede. Application brochures will be mailed out Thanksgiving weekend. Look for them soon. Changes to the trail are underway which will add some additional downhill to the first 10k. We are happy to announce Shorts Brewery as a new sponsor. Look for something special from Joe at the skier's party.
Also, watch for more on a special offer from Shanty Creek; Stampede skiers will be able to get the best discount ever on rooms at the lodge.
